Meditation is a process of emptying out accumulated clutter of the mind
by quieting and stilling the flow of thought. The Hindu yogis of India
developed it more than two thousand years ago. They succeeded in
mapping the auric or subtle body, and divided it into seven centers
known as the chakras. The auric body is the energy field associated
with the physical body that is not ordinarily visible and the energy
itself is known as the "aura." There are various meditations designed
to make meditators aware of their auric body to cleanse it of all
negativity and enable complete well-being. There are various benefits
attached to meditation, ranging from the ordinary to the miraculous.
The benefits of meditation can be availed of by anyone who decides to
practice this art. There are many misconceptions related to meditation
such as it is exclusively for people who are on a spiritual search or
that it is concerned with focusing or concentrating. Meditation is not
concentration, though concentration can be a by-product and benefit of
meditation. Meditation helps relieve everyday stress and is said to
enable the mediators to get in touch with the vast reservoir of energy
that everyone holds at the center of the being. Meditation is also
credited with healing physical illnesses as it is alleged in the world
of meditation that ninety nine percent of the diseases arise from the
afflictions of the mind.
Meditation can be used as an approach towards a more holistic way of
living or as a path to attain inner wisdom. Serious seekers choose the
path of meditation as their conduit to enlightenment or Nirvana, which
is viewed by various disciplines as the ultimate aim of a human life.
Regardless of the level and form of faith that meditators may place in
meditation, many scientifically proven benefits can be derived from
meditating. These benefits include better-regulated blood pressure and
body weight and reduced stress levels.
